The Detroit Tigers gave the fans some excitement in the first four games of a long season. Four wins, two of which were walk-off wins in the final innings. The first walk-off came on opening day when Austin Jackson hit a game winning single to drive in Brennan Boesch to win the game. The second walk-off win came this past Sunday when Alex Avila hit a two-run home run in the 11th inning. There was only one thing that went wrong during the Tiger’s celebration: there was no pie. When a player is instrumental in the team’s victory, such as getting the game-winning hit, it’s tradition for the team to wait for that player to be interviewed after the game then pie him in the face (usually this is done with whipped cream or shaving cream and a towel, not an actual pie).
The Tigers are picked to win the AL Central this year, yet they are not even participating in one of the most fun traditions of the sport. I believe that there will be more dramatic wins coming up this season and I want to see the pies on ESPN and Fox Sports Detroit. Keep winning, Tigers, and let’s enjoy some pie.
Orioles pitcher Will Ohman gets a pie to the face after his win (the “pieing” starts around the 2:00 minute mark). Tigers take note of this, this is what we want in the post game interviews:
