basketball referee

Last Saturday, two alums of the North Carolina State Wolfpack were ejected from their alma mater’s basketball game for no reason other than a couple comments on a call the referee had made.  There are many instances when the referee needs to throw players or fans out of the game for such things like physical violence, profanity, or throwing things onto the court. But the reason these two alumni were thrown out is still unclear and has stirred up some debate.

Fans, be careful when cheering on your team, whether it’s the Red Wings going for 24 straight, Michigan Men’s and Women’s last home basketball games, or Opening Day at Comerica Park. One wrong comment could have you back home watching from your couch.  Check out this list of other basketball ejections.

1. One of the more famous ejections from a basketball game by a man who made a hobby out of it. Bobby Knight throws a chair onto the court after his dislike of a referee’s calls against his team.  Be sure to listen to the commentary about his apparel as he leaves.

2. Rasheed Wallace gets ejected for an odd reason, but Wallace is known for trash talking and getting technicals in the NBA.  Remember not to stare at the referees too hard, this video will give you a little taste of what happens when you do.

3. No one should ever get this out of hand and this player should never see the court again. With that being said, take a look at the video.

4. Back when the Shock played in Detroit, this game turned ugly when a fight broke out at midcourt.  Cheryl Ford, who wasn’t even a part of the fight, consequently injured her knee and had to miss a few games.
