There are those who have no interest in sports whatsoever, and those who know every stat in the book. Then there are those who take their fandom to the next level. A friend of mine, an athlete on a collegiate sports team, recently had his Facebook profile hacked by a fan of the team. It made me realize that some people follow certain aspects of sports for the wrong reasons. I put together a list of some of the most recent infamous sports fanatics:
1. Piggyback Bandit- This man has been banned in five states and fined hundreds of dollars for posing as a team member, manager, or coach at various high schools around the country. Once he gets near the team, he would ask the players (or sometimes pay them) to give him a piggyback ride.
2. Erin Andrews Stalker- Michael Barrett followed the blonde ESPN reporter to different hotels she was staying at and videotaped her when she was naked using a peephole. He was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for the crime.
3. Tasered Phillies Fan- Common crime at professional baseball games that was launched into the national spotlight when this particular fan was tasered. A 17-year-old at a Phillies-Cardinals game last season called his dad prior to running on the field to see if he should do it, his father said it was not the best idea but he went ahead and did it anyway. Some comic relief was brought to the situation when he was featured in Web Redemption on Tosh.0.
4. Arena Football Defender- Last year, in an arena football game between the Jacksonville Sharks and the Georgia Force, a fan grabbed kick returner C.J. Johnson when the player had the ball. The fan was removed from the game and fined but received applause and high fives as he left.
Lets keep sports about the athletes and not the out of line fans.
