Detroit Pistons: What Went Wrong?

It’s been years since Detroit Pistons fans can remember the good, recent days.  Back in 2004, everything was wonderful with the Pistons just having won an NBA championship. The following year, the Pistons made another visit to the Finals, only to lose to the San Antonio Spurs.  Since those years, the Detroit Pistons play and results have gone down a steep downhill.

Well, what went wrong?

The trade of Chauncey Billups:  Everything began to fall apart when Joe Dumars decided to trade Chauncey Billups and Arron Afflalo to Denver for Allen Iverson.  Iverson didn’t last longer than a year and, though injured now, Billups has been a viable point guard ever since.

Failed coaches:  The hire of former Piston Michael Curry did not bring success, and the hire of John Kuester led to rifts between players and the coach himself.  Hopefully, the hire of Lawrence Frank ignites a spark for success.

Management:  Joe Dumars and the rest of management have not formed a practical team and lineup. For one, it seems as though the team lacks chemistry when they’re on the court. Secondly, the lineup consists of a handful of guards but not a good number of big men.

One can only hope that this current three-game-win-streak is the sign of new times in Detroit.  However, this season has not provided much promise.  Expect to see management act hastily before the trade deadline.
