New York fans rejoiced on Sunday as the Giants brought home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Though the halftime show received mixed reviews, the thing that never disappoints during the Super Bowl are the commercials. This year one of the top-rated ads was Bud Light’s rescue dog commercial starring Weego.  Weego was a rescue dog that was trained to fetch Bud Light whenever someone said “here Weego,” and it was a hit. The part of the commercial that won many over was the plug at the end for adopting these dogs that need rescuing.

More companies, like the established Anheuser- Busch (Bud Light), should affiliate themselves to non-profits when on the big stage, like the Super Bowl.  This particular ad was with the Tony La Russa Animal Rescue Foundation.  Also, for every “like” Bud Light gets on Facebook because of this ad, the company will donate $1 to the foundation.  Let’s hope that this beer commercial has started a new meaningful trend and we see established corporations do their part in helping out the non-profits.  Be sure to “like” Bud Light on Facebook and next time you’re out having drinks, think about the company that you’re supporting and what they represent.

During the 2012 game; commercial’s cost an average of $3.5 million, reaching an estimated 117 million viewers. As America struggles to avoid another recession, it’s hard to rationalize spending $116,666 for every second of advertising space sold… even if companies are endorsing charities. For some interesting perspective… just 7 minutes of super bowl commercials cost enough to fund all of Zimbabwes 1 million orphans to attend school for an entire year.
