Schiano Walks Out on Job
All Things Consider — By clswift on January 27, 2012 at 10:00 am
There is no better feeling than studying for an exam all night then not even showing up for it the next day. When the professor asks you where you were during the exam you told them you were busy taking an exam for a class you are not registered in.
This is similar to Greg Schiano’s situation with Rutgers. The Rutgers head coach was to meet with potential recruits for the upcoming season early Thursday morning. The one thing that made this meeting not go as planned was the fact that Schiano did not show up. Instead, he was accepting his new job as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach.
The problem I see in this is that he walked out on his job and left the Rutgers football team in a tough spot with National Signing Day coming up next week. The meeting he was scheduled to be at was with three recruits, obviously a vital resource for the Rutgers. This also leaves questions for his current committed recruits whether or not they should still go there or find another school. Schiano should have helped to find a new coach and solidified a recruiting class before missing meetings and leaving. Let’s hope that the NFL works out for Schiano because he may have left a bad name for himself in the College Football world.
