LSU vs Alabama: Classic Game or Classic Letdown?
All Things Consider — By Brandon Klein on November 8, 2011 at 12:00 pm
Touchdown LSU. Touchdown Alabama. Wait, that didn’t happen… Instead we saw a game of defense and field goals (mostly missed for Alabama). That’s not to say it was a bad game– a fan of stingy defense would fall in love with this type of game. However, most college football fans click to the games that have the excitement of scoring.
How Did This Game Go?
With the game tied 6-6 by the end of the fourth quarter, the two teams went into overtime. Eventually, LSU won the game with a field goal to defeat Alabama. Alabama must be devastated after missing several chances to win the game (four total missed field goals).
What This Means For the Outlook of the Title Game
This now opens the door for Oklahoma State, Stanford, or Boise State to play LSU in the title game as long as LSU remains in the number one spot. At this point, Oklahoma State has the inside track to the title game, but has a tough road to the finish. There is something very inspiring about this Stanford team. I wouldn’t be be surprised if Andrew Luck leads them to the big game. Boise State is always a possibility, but seems to be destined for the Fiesta Bowl at this point.
Overall, the LSU-Alabama matchup did not live up to its hype in terms of points on the scoreboard. However, both teams showed off their talent on the defensive end and sometimes, defense wins games.
